Position: Radioactive Materials Program Manager (Radiation Safety Supervisor)
Manages the Commonwealth of Virginia's Radioactive Materials Program which includes supervising, training and evaluating program staff; reviewing and approving radioactive materials licensing and inspection activities; developing and maintaining licensing applications, regulatory guidance documents and other forms and documents as necessary; and assessing the Virginia Radiation Protection laws and regulations to ensure their compatibility with those of the NRC and proposing revisions as necessary. Serves as the primary spokesperson for the program; determines if any regulatory actions are to be taken when violations are identified; provides technical guidance to program staff and the public; maintains the program databases; and ensures licensee fees are collected and all financial and business matters are appropriately managed.
Knowledge of radiological health and health physics; use and application of radioactive materials laws, regulations and standards regarding radioactive materials; and, radiation detection instrumentation and isotope analysis is required. Experience working in a radiation safety program is required. Incumbent must be qualified to license and inspect multiple licensee types (i.e., medical radiation therapy, construction gauges and academic center use of isotopes in research). Effective oral and written communication and supervisory skills is required.
